Spencer Scruggs is the Director of the Center for Accessible Education (CAE), the campus office responsible for the approval, provision, and facilitation of reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities at UCLA. Through a collaborative effort with faculty, staff, and students, CAE facilitates academic, clinical, housing, and dining accommodations, advocates for disability inclusion, and serves as an educational resource for the campus community. Disability is fundamental to the diverse pillars of the University, and CAE works to support students in accessing their educational experience at UCLA.
Spencer has served in the field of Disability Resources in Higher Education for 10 years, serving in many capacities from Disability Specialist and Assistant Director at Florida State University to Director at Trinity University. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Louisville in 2014 and his Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University in 2016. He takes pride in giving back to the profession, having recently served on multiple ACPA Annual Convention teams, the Professional Competencies Working Group for the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), and currently serving as a Board Member of AHEAD. Spencer considers himself a scholar-practitioner first, having conducted research on disabled student success, written articles published in the Journal for Postsecondary Education and Disability, and authored chapters in books and manuscripts on the topic of disability in higher education and disabled college student success.
Spencer lives in LA with his husband Caleb and his two precious cats, Jinx and Jester. In his free time, he loves to be involved with anything related to musical theatre, be it performing onstage, directing, working backstage, or enjoying his extensive showtune playlist
