Andrew J. James-McClure is the Director of the Bruin Resource Center (BRC) at UCLA, the campus hub dedicated to empowering Bruins through community and connection. The BRC fosters an inclusive, supportive environment for all UCLA students, with specialized programs and resources that uplift students from communities of strength and perseverance, including current and former foster youth, parenting students and student caregivers, students impacted by incarceration, those experiencing houselessness, students in recovery from addictive behaviors, undocumented students and students from mixed-status families. Through collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and campus partners, the BRC supports student development, well-being, and academic success while advancing an inclusive and socially just campus community.
A proud UCLA alumnus, Andrew was a first-generation college student, a student caring for dependents, and a system-impacted scholar whose lived experiences continue to shape his commitment to educational access and belonging. With over 20 years of experience in higher education, he brings caring, thoughtful, and student-centered leadership to his role developing strong relationships and collaborations across the campus to expand opportunities and support for Bruins. Andrew is a passionate advocate for mental health and holistic student wellness, leading with empathy and authenticity to ensure that every student has the tools, confidence, and community to thrive both personally and academically. Andrew’s professional experience spans various roles across the UCLA campus, including positions within the Alumni Association, Graduate Student Resource Center, Housing Services, Transfer Center, Veteran Resource Center and Residential Life.
Outside of work, Andrew—one of twelve children—finds joy in spending time with his husband, their many cats and dogs, and staying active through tennis and softball. A lifelong sports fan, he especially enjoys following hockey and managing his family and friend's fantasy football league.
