Voting Information for Students

Date: October 30, 2020
From: Monroe Gorden, Jr., J.D., Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Dear Bruins,

As we exercise our civic right to vote in the upcoming election, I want to take a moment to reiterate options for voting at UCLA.

UCLA Vote Centers are now open and available for in-person voting. The three voting centers are listed at the bottom of this letter. Multiple sites were added as voting centers to help reduce the potential long lines and wait times that we have seen in previous elections. Despite the added sites, we encourage those voting in person to do so as early as possible to help reduce wait times. Please note that in-person voting is available for those who did not register to vote by the California October 19 deadline, through conditional voting. If you live in a different county, you can find your nearest polling place online.

As you may know, all registered California voters receive a vote-by-mail ballot. When voting by mail you can either deposit your ballot in a mailbox or an official drop box, such as the Los Angeles County ballot drop box located on Westwood Boulevard at Strathmore on the median. If depositing your vote via a mailbox, it is encouraged that you put your ballot in the mail as soon as possible to ensure that it gets to your county registrar on time. Be sure to read and follow the instructions on your vote by mail ballot carefully as states may have different voting deadlines and rules.

UCLA Student Affairs will also host reflection spaces ( see the reflection spaces flyer (PNG) for more information) throughout November for undergraduate and graduate students to meet, and explore their reactions and feelings related to the election. Please visit the UCLA Community website for information on various departmental and resource center reflection spaces.

I admire and greatly appreciate the passion for civic engagement that we have already seen from so many Bruins leading up to the election. I want to remind everyone of our True Bruin Values, and specifically our responsibility to be respectful to each other, particularly during this unprecedented time.
