MESSAGE FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR

Janina Montero, Vice Chancellor
Janina Montero
Vice Chancellor

Each day I find new reasons to admire the beauty of the campus; the breadth of interests and energy of the students; the excellence of the faculty; the competence and dedication of the staff; and the enthusiasm and involvement of our alumni and community partners.

I recognize that UCLA is a big place. Students can sometimes feel lost in the shuffle while trying to figure out their daily routines, including where to live and which courses to enroll in. Although our exceptional students are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves, they do need support in order to thrive on such a large campus. Therefore, we in Student Affairs view our role of “taking care of the students” in the purest sense—making sure they have the best possible environment for exploring their intellectual interests and achieving their full potential.

We want to make sure that all students feel at home somewhere at UCLA. As such, we aim to deliver the best possible services and programs that reflect the diverse needs of many different groupings of students. We encourage UCLA students to explore and connect with our wide range of innovative programs and services, and to take full advantage of these opportunities.

At Student Affairs we are:

  • Providing broad and diverse access to the University, through outreach and financial aid programs;

  • Easing the transition from high school to college through counseling, health and housing services;

  • Ensuring that all of our students have a campus experience that inspires and challenges them—as well as one which prepares them for life beyond the University—through our many other student services and programs, all accessible through this website; and

  • Listening to our students and constantly improving our programs and services to better serve the campus community.

Finally, as our students take their experience into the world beyond the campus, we urge them to “give back” by staying connected to their UCLA family and supporting the programs which have meant so much to them.

Thank you!
