Undergraduate Admissions and
Relations with Schools (UARS) informs, attracts, and admits
undergraduate students to meet UCLA's enrollment, qualitative,
and diversity goals. The functions of the office can be divided
into two broad categories: recruitment and admissions.
Recruitment.
Admissions office staff visit high schools and community
colleges, sponsor and attend conferences, develop and distribute
informational literature, counsel prospective students, and
coordinate campus tours in order to recruit new freshmen and
transfer students. For students who have been admitted, recruitment
staff undertake a series of events, often called yield programs,
designed to encourage these students to enroll at UCLA.
Admissions.
UCLA receives more undergraduate applications than
any other school in the nation. The main responsibilities
of admissions processing are to review these applications
and make admission decisions. They also provide evaluation
services (determining whether and how course work at other
colleges/universities should be counted for credit at UCLA)
for current and reentering UCLA students.
