Our Mission

The Dashew Center for International Students and Scholars enhances the UCLA experience for international students and scholars and promotes global connection through services to the university community.  Our staff members are international educators who uphold the highest professional standards and meet the needs of students and scholars with cultural sensitivity and awareness.  We advise, counsel, advocate, ensure regulatory compliance and create learning and community involvement opportunities through our programs and events.

What we do

Our international student and scholar community of over 5000 talented individuals receives assistance in areas which include interpreting immigration regulations, understanding employment options, and making cultural, educational and personal adjustments to the campus and the community.  This includes a comprehensive orientation program which provides entering students and scholars with information, contacts, and support they need to enhance their success at UCLA.  We also serve as a comprehensive service center for visiting researchers, scholars and post-docs from outside the U.S. and provide visa services for UCLA departments which employ non-citizen faculty or staff.

The Dashew Center is housed in Bradley Hall, which provides a dynamic environment to gain a better understanding of our global community at UCLA.  A range of programs and activities include English Conversation Programs, seminars and workshops on global development issues, and social events to network and engage with UCLA students and faculty and our community-at-large.

The Dashew Center Board of Directors, comprised of prominent community members and businesspeople and chaired by Mr. Stanley Dashew, provides guidance and support for the Center’s initiatives  to promote global connection.  The Board’s leadership has made UCLA and our Center unique in the nation for the scope of our commitment to programs, events and activities which contribute to building a world of greater tolerance, understanding and peace.
