MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATE VICE CHANCELLOR
STUDENT ACADEMIC SERVICES

Tom Lifka, Assistant Vice Chancellor
Tom Lifka
Associate Vice Chancellor

As I enter my 21st year of working at UCLA, I am particularly proud of the great advances we have made in using technology of all kinds to deliver services to students quickly and efficiently. While new technologies are developed all the time, I think we have done most things we can to improve service using the present generation of available options. At this point, we need to improve in those services and interactions where only a human being working directly with another provides the best result. Technolo gy does have limits when personalized, empathetic response and action are called for. Our divisional goal has always been to find ways for students to take care of their business and bureaucratic requirements in the least burdensome way, and we will continue to have keep that as a worthy goal. Because of the reality of the California state budget during the past few years, we have learned how to do more with less. It appears that reality will be with us for several more years, and we must continue to find ways to meet this challenge as best we can so that it has minimal impact on the daily lives of our students.
