Ashe Center Brings Up New System
In “Record” Time

By Shelley Pearson

Last summer the Ashe Center and its entire staff accomplished the most AMAZING feat! We implemented an entire medical management system and electronic medical record (EMR for the “initiated) in FOUR MONTHS! Implementing such a large system is a feat in itself (even though we have been automated for years with our data), however doing this in such a short time is pretty much unheard of! Especially accomplished are our clinicians. Why? Because they were still on paper for their comprehensive charting of the vast array of services they provide to students to keep them in school. They jumped to “pointing and clicking” with VERY little transition. Not only that, but their, and all our staff’s, continued enthusiastic good cheer, laughter and incredible PATIENCE over the last several months are a model for any organization under-going change. I am SO PROUD to be a part of this group. They deserve many many kudos, hugs, smiles, back pats.

This implementation has also been a boon for students. With it they can now schedule their OWN appointments on line, have secure conversations with their clinicians that are included in their EMR and are in line for a host of other on-line services we’ll be able to provide them. Confidentiality is definitely increased.
