Special Accomplishments
By Dennis Lyday |
AVC Naples had another reason to celebrate his
20th year when he received a very special honor
last October. On October, 29, 2004, Bob, who carries
the dual responsibilities of Assistant Vice Chancellor
and Dean of Students, was honored by Region VI of
the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators
(NASPA) as the 2004 recipient of the “Scott
Goodnight Outstanding Performance As A Dean”
Award.
The award is given in honor of the founding president
of NASPA and “is given to a dean who has demonstrated
sustained professional service in student affairs
work, high-level competency in administrative skills,
innovative response in meeting students' varied
and emerging needs, effectiveness in developing
junior staff members, and leadership in community
and university affairs.”
In recognizing Bob, the Region VI awards committee
observed, “[Dean Naples] is consistently seeking
innovative ways to provide programming that enhances
the college experience and augments the student’s
development as a moral citizen and as a leader,”
and noted further, “Over the course of his
career, he has… demonstrated not just competency,
but excellence, in the field, earning the respect
of the many faculty, staff, administrators, students,
parents, and community leaders with whom he has
come into contact.”
Bob and the award recipients from each of NASPA’s
regional groupings are candidates for the national
“Outstanding Performance as a Dean”
award, which will be presented at NASPA’s
national conference this coming March.
