Welcome Staff!
Student Affairs programs and services are at the heart of every UCLA student’s experience outside the classroom. Because of the wide range and the on-going nature of our work with students, we do, in a very real sense, communicate the culture of the campus.
With this broad influence comes significant responsibility on the part of our departments and our staff, and this sets the bar very high in terms of the standards we establish for ourselves. Student Affairs staff members must be role models for the campus in our interactions with students and with campus colleagues. Values such as respect, inclusiveness, fairness, and tolerance are critical for our work and should be foundation blocks of our organizational culture. Similarly, we need to be aware of our role as educators and to be willing to step up to the “educational moment” when we see behavior that fails to meet these standards. We must also take the role of self-evaluators as we go about our work and must be willing innovators when we see the need for programs or services that can meet the needs of our students with even greater responsiveness and impact.
The same high expectations apply to the efforts we devote to the welfare and development of our staff. Training and development of our staff is critical to the maintenance of our overall excellence, and we are committed to this process. Our Management Leadership Group Program offers excellent development opportunities for selected staff. Our Staff Development program provides both professional development, such as our “Celebration of Diversity” program, and personal development opportunities. The Silk Road to the Future program has offered unparalleled opportunities for campus exposure. The “UCLA Get Active!” program supports exercise and wellness-related activities for every staff member. And our ongoing emergency planning efforts help our staff and our organization prepare for catastrophic events.
