ore than 20 years after the opening of the original John Wooden Center,
a new addition called Wooden Center West has opened to serve the UCLA
community. Housing the expanded fitness center and Student Psychological
Services, the new building offers a total mind and body approach to student
health and fitness.

Dedicated
to strength training and cardio-fitness workouts, the new exercise facility
located on Wooden Center West's ground floor offers triple the amount
of space over its previous location. “It’s a beautiful space
with state-of-the-art equipment,” says Mick DeLuca, UCLA Recreation
director, “and already we’ve seen a 73 percent increase in
users compared to the same time last year.”

Formerly
housed in multiple locations across campus, Student Psychological Services
(SPS) on the second floor of Wooden Center West, is now consolidated under
one roof, enabling greater efficiency of service. SPS, a comprehensive
mental health center for the UCLA community, operates as an independent
entity within Wooden Center West, and provides a private entrance and
a collection of small meeting rooms, amongst numerous other amenities.
According to Dr. Hal Pruett, director of SPS, “This is a wonderful
new building is right at the heart of campus—an ideal location for
us.”
