Consultation & Response Team’s Role in Assisting Students
A relatively new, but potentially powerful effort in support of campus safety and community is the UCLA Consultation & Response Team. The CR Team is composed of representatives from key campus departments, such as The College, Student Affairs and the UCLA Police Department. The Team meets weekly to identify students in crisis, then works quickly and collaboratively to assess a distressed student’s needs, direct her/him to campus and community resources, and consult with the UCLA offices impacted by the crisis. Our overall goal is to stabilize both the student and the community.
Please be aware that this work relies on referrals from the entire campus community and can only be effective with your support. Be assured that our group observes FERPA restrictions with Counseling and Psychological Services adhering to more stringent HIPAA requirements to protect student privacy. Dr. Karen Minero is the Student Care Manager for the CR Team and can be reached by calling 310-825-0628 or 310-825-3894 or by emailing kminero@saonet.ucla.edu. Of course, if you should face an emergency on campus, you should immediately contact UCPD by dialing 911 from an on-campus phone and dialing (310) 825-1491 from a cell phone.
- The mission of the CR Team is to:
- To consult with members of the campus community when they think a student might be in crisis;
- To respond to students in crisis;
- To educate the campus community on how to recognize signs that a student may be in crisis, and what to do when they see those signs.
