Executive Director
Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center

Dr. Chaitali Mukherjee oversees The UCLA Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center. She has overall responsibility for the management and strategic direction of The Ashe Center such that it supports the development of all Bruin students in their health and wellness.

Chaitali is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, and has been a practicing clinician since 2006. She received a B.A. in Biology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York before earning a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Illinois as well as an M.P.H. in Health Policy Administration. After working in primary care settings in Minnesota and Illinois, she relocated to Los Angeles where she took a job at The Ashe Center, eventually becoming the Assistant Medical Director. In 2018 she moved up to San Francisco to become the Assistant Vice Chancellor/Executive Medical Director for UCSF Student Health and Counseling Services. She returned to UCLA in 2021 to shape the future direction of The Ashe Center as its new Executive Director.

Having worked at two University of California campuses through the troubling times of COVID-19, Chaitali is inspired to serve the Bruin student population with compassion and to reduce health disparities. She hopes to establish The Ashe Center as a model of best practices among student health centers across the nation.

She believes in relationship-centered care that is holistic and healing to help students achieve academic success and lifelong wellness. She would like to promote resilience and build community for every student and UCLA employee, so together each of us can rise up to be stronger, healthier, happier, better.

When Chaitali is not working, she enjoys traveling, writing poetry, scuba diving, yoga, and hiking. She is trilingual in English, Bengali, and Spanish.
