Intergroup Relations
The Intergroup Relations (IGR) Program at UCLA was established to enhance campus climate through programs that improve understanding, tolerance and communication between students from different backgrounds. The Intergroup Relations Program, which is sponsored by UCLA Student Affairs, provides students with opportunities to develop important communication and leadership skills and understanding that are critical for living and working in diverse and inclusive communities.
Intergroup Relations at UCLA began in January of 2008 with the establishment of the IGR committee which includes students, staff, faculty and executive management from departments across the UCLA campus.
Through this collaborative effort, the IGR Program offers the Intergroup Dialogue Course for students. Intergroup Dialogues are facilitated meetings between students from different social identity groups where there has been or may be potential for conflict. The goal of Intergroup Dialogues is to foster mutual understanding, empathy, awareness, relationships and social action among students from different groups, such as women and men or Christians, Muslims and Jews.
